Laundry Room Remodel

Laundry Room Remodel

Are you tired of your old, cramped, dark laundry room? Do you wish for a beautiful and efficient space to do your laundry in? If so, then it’s time to remodel your laundry room with Debuty Builders!

The Process

Remodeling can be an intimidating process but with the right planning and design ideas, you can transform your outdated laundry room into something more modern and functional. In this article, we will discuss some tips and tricks on how you can make the most out of your space when remodeling a small or large laundry room. We will explore various storage options that are both stylish and practical while providing plenty of countertop space to work on. Finally, we will look at ways to incorporate decorative elements that add a little bit of personality to an otherwise utilitarian area. So if you’re ready for a change in your home, read on for some inspiration!

Practical Improvements

Having a countertop in a laundry room is incredibly useful for many reasons. It provides a practical workspace for sorting, folding, and mending clothes, as well as space to install a washing machine and other necessary appliances. A countertop can also provide additional storage for cleaning supplies, such as detergent and fabric softener, and a place to hang a drying rack.

Decorating

When it comes to decorating, there are plenty of ways to make the laundry room feel like an extension of the rest of your home. For example, choose bright or colorful wallpaper for a cheerful look, or opt for wood paneling for a more rustic effect. If you’d like something in between, try a tone-on-tone wallpaper that adds texture without the addition of color. Add personalized touches with framed artwork or family photos, and don’t forget some cool lighting fixtures to brighten up the space.

Storage

Finally, if your laundry room is large enough to accommodate some structures, adding a built-in or storage bench will make your laundry space more functional and efficient. A washing machine or dryer that’s mounted on a shelf can also help declutter the area and make it easier to move around in. With these tips, you can easily transform your laundry room into an inviting space that you won’t mind spending time in.

Factors To Consider When Building A House

Factors To Consider When Building A House

Are you ready to build your dream home? Before jumping into the process, it’s essential that you understand all of the factors and processes that are involved in constructing and titling a new property. Debuty Builders Inc. is here to help make the journey of building a house easier by sharing critical considerations for constructing a residential structure: understanding local zoning laws, obtaining construction permits, and navigating title insurance. With this foundation of knowledge about what goes into creating a home as well as how we can help guide you through each step with our comprehensive real estate-related services, then your dreams becoming reality will be much closer in reach!

Location – Access to public transportation and amenities, crime rate, and average home prices in the area

When considering building in Blount or Knox County, it’s important to take into account the location. A major factor in location is access to amazing public schools and public amenities. Fortunately, both counties are known for their outstanding public school systems, making them the perfect place to raise families. Additionally, there are plenty of parks, shopping centers, and restaurants located within the town areas. Another important consideration is the crime rate in the area. Blount County has a reputation for being a safe place to live, with low crime rates compared to other counties in the state. Lastly, when looking at location, it’s crucial to consider average home prices in the area. Blount and Knox Counties offer an affordable option for those looking to build, with prices lower than neighboring counties. Overall, Blount and Knox County are great choices for those looking for access to public amenities, low crime rates, and affordable home prices.

Budget – Building a house requires a significant amount of capital, so make sure to plan ahead for unexpected costs

When it comes to building a house, budgeting is key. It’s important to plan ahead and anticipate unexpected costs that may arise during the construction process. Working closely with a mortgage lender or banker can help you stay on track and ensure that you have the necessary funds to cover expenses. However, it’s also important to keep in mind that payments may increase over time, so it’s essential to create a budget that allows for flexibility and unexpected changes. By taking the time to plan ahead and work closely with professionals, you can build the home of your dreams without breaking the bank.

Design – Consider the size of the property, layout of the house, style, materials used, etc.

When it comes to design, there are many factors to consider, such as the size of the property, the layout of the house, the style, and the materials used. However, one crucial element of design that often gets overlooked is furniture. It’s essential to choose pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also fit the space correctly. That’s why taking accurate measurements is key. Moreover, keep in mind any building restrictions that may limit your options. With careful planning, you can create a cohesive and functional design that will make your home both comfortable and stylish.

Building Regulations – Research local laws and regulations that may affect your building plans

When planning a building project, it is important to do your research and understand the local laws and regulations that may affect your plans. In Blount County, for example, the building codes are enforced by the Blount County Building Codes Department, which has specific requirements for everything from electrical wiring to plumbing. Similarly, if your building plans fall within Knox County, you will be subject to the Knox County Building Codes and Inspections regulations. Be sure to keep in mind that regulations can also vary depending on whether you are within city limits or not. By taking the time to understand these regulations, you can ensure that your building project is safe and up to code.

Hiring Professionals – Get advice from experienced professionals in architecture and construction that can help you build the best house possible

Choosing to hire professionals for your construction project is a wise decision that will undoubtedly save you time, money, and headaches. However, it is crucial to ensure that you are hiring licensed and insured experts that will get the job done right. Their expertise and knowledge of design and materials can help you build the best house possible. Before making a final decision, take the time to check the reviews of the professionals you are considering. This will give you an idea of their reputation and level of service. Don’t hesitate to get advice from experienced professionals in both architecture and construction to ensure that your dream home becomes a reality.

Financing Options – Explore different financing options that are available such as mortgages or home equity loans

When it comes to financing options for a big investment such as buying a home, it’s important to explore all the options available. One common way to finance a home is through a mortgage lender or banker, who can provide you with a loan to purchase the property. However, there are also government-backed loans available for those who may not qualify for traditional mortgages. These loans, such as FHA and VA loans, can provide lower down payments and other benefits that make owning a home more accessible. By taking the time to research and understand different financing options, you can make an informed decision about what option is best suited for your individual needs and financial situation.

Debuty Builders

Building your dream home is an exciting and challenging endeavor. Why Choose a Custom Builder

Why Choose a Custom Builder

A home is a lifetime investment. It is more than a living space in terms of functionality, comfort, style, and luxury. Still, many find themselves in a dilemma of choosing between a custom home designed and built from scratch and going for an existing home or a spec home.

If you have decided to free yourself from standard spaces, it’s only right to find a custom home builder who can bring your dream home to life. It’s no secret that there are dozens of options for home builders in Maryville, Tn but choosing the right one is the ticket to extraordinary results. Building your home can be a painstaking process, but it is worth it all the way. We have made a list of reasons to consider when you ask yourself, “Why choose a custom builder?”

Why Everyone Is Considering A Custom Home Builder For Their Next Home

Endless options

With a custom-built home, you get to decide and choose every detail of your home, from your front door to the bathroom features. It’s also flexible with custom home plans and can easily accommodate what you have in mind. To put it simply, every inch of your home is all you!

At Debuty Builders, we have over-proven floorplans designed and priced, which takes the guesswork out of the design process. Don’t spend thousands of dollars and months of time designing a home that is not within your budget! If you don’t find a design that fits your needs, we can modify a plan or design it from scratch. But we will do it based on a budget and a level of finish that fits your style and budget!

Meet your functionality needs

Your home should be designed to meet functionality, and pre-built homes may not be up to the mark. If you wish to get the most out of your space, a custom home builder can optimize every section of your home. You can work together to establish floor plans that you decide just for you. This will revolve around your lifestyle and unique needs and remove the possibility of unused spaces.

Voice out your preferences

Your hobbies, lifestyle, and taste should be considered in your home. Custom floor plans are as flexible as possible, giving room for anything you pictured in your vision. It makes your home special, with YOU written all over it.

There are various options for pre-built homes, but none will match all your preferences. You may spend hours finding the one that suits your needs and still has to sacrifice some crucial elements.

Budget flexibility

While the common notion is that custom homes are much more costly than their pre-built and semi-custom counterparts, this isn’t the case. When you partner with a credible custom home builder, your home is built within your budget. It’s safe to say that your home is only as expensive as you let it be. Kitchen Trends of 2023

Let’s face it: There’s zero chance you’re renovating your kitchen annually. But still, as the (excuse the cliché) heart of the home, this room is obviously impacted by changing styles and trends in interior design. And if, like us, you’re a little over the whole all-white-everything kitchen look, you’ll want to pay attention to the trends on the rise in kitchen design, from cabinetry to countertops to layout (are islands out?!). Well, we tapped some of our most trusted sources to hear what they’re already ordering for clients for installs next year. Read on for their most prescient predictions. (P.S. if you want to dig deeper into cabinetry predictions, check out our 2023 Kitchen Cabinet Trends here.)

REIMAGINED ISLANDS

“The kitchen island is having a renaissance,” proclaims Linda Hayslett. “I think we’ll see new shapes and a totally new mood.” Take, for example, this riff in Shavonda Gardner’skitchen, where a traditional island is swapped for a multifunctional dining table, a switch we’re anticipating seeing more of.

WARM WOODS

“I think we are finally seeing a return to dark stained wood cabinetry in the kitchen,” opines Studio Dearborn founder Sarah Robertson, who opted for it in the bar area of this kitchen. San Francisco-based Katie Monkhouse agrees: “I’m pinning all the warm toned wood right now,” she says.

PATTERN AND COLOR

Chicago designer Wendy Labrum doesn’t mince words when it comes to her prediction: “Color! Marble! We’re tired of basic and boring,” she proclaims. Christopher Peacock certainly got this memo when designing the kitchen for this year’s Kips Bay Dallas showhouse, where bold wallpaper, a graphic backsplash, and two-tone cabinets create a layered space.

UNCONVENTIONAL BACKSPLASHES

Who says backsplash has to be white tile? In fact, this area can be the perfect canvas for a creative wall (especially if your kitchen lacks in wall space), and we’re finally starting to see if used this way. In her design for the 2022 Whole Home, Whittney Parkinson added an antiqued glass panel to hers to open the space up while providing warmth.

UNEXPECTED HUES ON CABINETRY

“Striking cabinet colors! Blues, greens, mauves, saffron—anything other than plain white,” predicts Molly Torres Portnof of DATE Interiors. In their design for the 2022 Brooklyn Heights Designer Show house, Baxt Ingui Architects looked to a mix of mauve and rose for an extra-special eat-in kitchen, as seen here.

WARMER WHITES

If you do still want to stick to white, Nina Carbone foresees an increase in popularity of ivory—”not stark white” cabinets, which lend a warmer feel, like in this kitchen by DeVOL.

2023 Bathroom Trends

2023 bathroom trends will continue to build on themes emerging since 2020, including clean lines, easy-maintenance materials, and heavy doses of natural colors. At the same time, an underlying current is shifting our view of bathrooms from task-focused spaces to rooms designed for comfort.

According to Jean-Jacques L’Henaff, a design expert with LIXIL Global Design, the bathroom has transformed into a space focused on health, wellness, and relaxation. At the same time, larger home design trends are influencing aesthetic styles. As a result, personalization is driving a lot of the design choices, encouraging homeowners to create comfortable rooms with custom bathing experiences.

1. Fabulous Walk-in Showers

It seems that everyone agrees 2023 is the year of the shower. Pinterest Predicts identified an “elevated shower routine” among its top trends for the year. Similarly, 2023 Design Trends research by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) and 2022 Bathroom Trends research from Houzz both report continued and increasing popularity in shower upgrades. This includes expanding shower sizes—two-person showers are preferred, according to the NKBA–as well as shower seats, multiple showerheads, and zero-entry showers for ageless accessibility.

But walk-in showers don’t just have a functional focus: Michele Youell, an NKBA member and designer behind Natural Domain Interiors, points to design elements like sources of natural light, accent lighting, high-end finishes (like the satin nickel finish on this Better Homes & Gardens Adjustable Shower Caddy, $25, Walmart) and visually stunning wall tiles that create an eye-catching shower when paired with the popular glass shower enclosure.

2. Removing Oversize Tubs

“While modern standalone tubs have been trending for several years, I have clients requesting removal of their large unused built-in tubs and reclaiming that space,” says Youell. Instead, that area is being repurposed for other trending bath design elements, such as expanded showers or bathroom linen closets. Removing a tub can also open a floor plan to create a bath that feels less crowded and more serene.

3. Spa Inspiration

There’s a shifting mindset when it comes to bathroom design: instead of seeing bathrooms as strictly task-focused, consider them as spaces in which to relax and take care of your body. “It can help heal a sore body when you have the flu, or it can even help with sore muscles from skiing,” says Lauren Schulte, NKBA member and owner and designer of Monarch Kitchen Design Studio.

Although showers are trending in favor of tubs generally, 2023 bathroom design is all about personalization, which means a rainfall shower for some, a soaking tub for others, or both. Steam showers are an increasingly popular solution, often including a bench or seating to encourage relaxation. “I am also designing with a lot of open shelves so clients can roll towels like you would see at a luxury spa and incorporate soft inviting colors to help it feel zen,” says Schulte.

Natural and dimmable lighting, and incorporating more greenery, are similar spa-inspired trends noted by Houzz. Altering the floor plan and creating separate spaces, like partitioning off the toilet for more privacy, is another way to get a spa-like bathing experience. Don’t forget to wrap yourself in a plush robe or towel (like this Better Homes & Gardens Aquifer Bath Sheet, $13, Walmart).

4. Wood Vanities

Painted finishes, especially white, have been the dominant choice for bathroom vanities of all shapes and sizes for years. But in 2023, expect to see a lot more natural wood on bathroom vanities and cabinets. Both Houzz and the NKBA are seeing wood coming in close second to (if not surpassing) the once-domineering white vanities. Cane and wood-pattern inserts were also added to the NKBA’s vanity styles for the first time this year. This increasing appeal of wood complements the rapid rise of modern organic style and warm colors that we’ve seen in the last two years.

5. Decorating with Wellness and Sustainability in Mind

“Sustainability trends will continue in the bathroom with the most popular areas being energy efficient lighting, floor heating, paints, and stains,” says Tanna Edler, NKBA-certified interior designer and owner of TANNA BY DESIGN.

Both Houzz and NKBA found upgrades like automatic bath ventilation, electric radiant heat flooring, and tankless, energy-efficient water heaters will continue to be part of bathroom updates in 2023. These reports also show homeowners are checking labels and product specs, opting for VOC-free paints and materials, FSC-certified cabinetry, LED lighting solutions, and Energy Star and WaterSense-rated appliances and fixtures.

A driving trend behind these choices is a desire for the more sustainable and environmentally conscious use of water, electricity, and other natural resources. But a growing awareness of how materials and practices impact indoor air quality is also encouraging us to design and decorate bathrooms more thoughtfully in 2023. “Homeowners value that VOC-free finishes are safer to use indoors and don’t generally cause issues from off-gassing and will continue to make requests of it as their product of choice,” says Edler.

6. Bathroom Accents That Pop

Although spa-worthy spaces might be this year’s biggest bathroom trend, the aesthetic doesn’t have to be entirely subdued. “After a series of serene and calm environments that we gravitated to due to the pandemic, we are now looking for fun and bold patterns to add texture and color to our space,” says Jake T. Galang, Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer (CKBD) behind ILUSTRACION BY JAKE, CORP.

According to Galang, many homeowners will incorporate geometric shapes, bold accessories on open shelves (like this Better Homes & Gardens 2-Shelf Organizer, $60, Walmart), and punches of color in the bath. L’Henaff also expects color, as well as jewelry-inspired textures, to accent the abundant neutrals and darker shades that will be decorating the home. Schulte predicts an increased interest in Indigenous and African-inspired patterns, such as mud cloth prints, through textiles, cabinet hardware, tile, lighting, or mirrors. When it comes to punchy accents, Galang recommends experimenting with new applications or materials, so they feel bold and graphic in your space.

Tips for Planning a Successful House Remodel

Tips for Planning a Successful House Remodel

When planning a house remodel, it can be tempting to skip to the exciting stage of choosing new paint colors, fixtures, and fittings, but in order for any renovation to go smoothly, there are several things to think about before you even begin.

Know Your End Goal

Before you decide how extensively to renovate, you need to know what your end goal is for your home. Are you renovating to raise the resale value of your home, or will you be staying put for years to come? Consider the condition of your neighborhood before you begin, and know which renovations are a good return on investment, and which will be considered overdoing it for the area. Having a specific plan in place for your future will help you decide how deep to go with your project.

Have a Budget

Knowing your budget—and sticking to it—is one of the most important parts of renovation planning. Remember to add in a contingency fund for any unexpected costs—and expect to use it—as well as incidental costs like the cost of eating out for a kitchen reno, or even taking a hotel for a night or two. It can be easy to want a top-of-the-line renovation, but perhaps all you need are some cheap upgrades that will make your house look more expensive. Do your research and plan your budget before ever lifting a hammer.

Consult the Calendar

If you’re hoping for a brand new home for a particular event or holiday, make sure you look at your end date and work your way backward. Be sure to pencil in a few weeks to a month in the end for wiggle room in case there are delays on the way to avoid disappointment.

Things to Consider During Your Remodel

Things to Consider During Your Remodel

“Most clients don’t want to hear those words,” says Paul Irwin, design director with Landis Construction, in the Washington, D.C., area, “but it really needs to be considered on major remodels. “In one case, for example, plans for a 1,300-square-foot addition revealed that the house’s existing foundation wasn’t up to code and would have to be replaced—a $30,000 proposition.

After crunching the numbers, the owners concluded that it would cost as much to update the house, a former summer cottage, as it would reproduce it new. “For a relatively small additional cost,” says the owner, “we get all the benefits of new construction while preserving the character and feel of our old house.”

Do Your Own Demo

Knocking down your home down may not be as costly as rebuilding, you can still shave dollars by doing some of the demolition yourself—as long as you proceed with care.

“If a homeowner wants to demo a deck, well, I am sure they can handle that,” says Michael Winn, owner of Winn Design, in Virginia. “But when it comes to interior spaces, I would dissuade them from doing it unless they have done it before.”

The reason: A reckless wrecker might unwittingly take out a load-bearing wall or, worse still, plunge a reciprocating saw into live wiring or pressurized plumbing.

  • Cost to demo a 200-square-foot deck yourself: $450 (Dumpster rental and parking permit)
  • Cost for a pro: $1,000
  • Saved: $550

Consider Long-Term Costs, Not Just Short-Term Gains

If your addition calls for clapboard siding, for instance, you can save more in the long run by ponying up now for the preprimed and prepainted variety. It costs an extra 10 to 20 cents per foot, but “you’ll wind up paying for half as many paint jobs down the road,” says Paul Eldrenkamp, owner of Byggmeister, a design-build remodeling firm in Newton, Massachusetts.

The reason? Factory finishes are applied on dry wood under controlled conditions—no rain, no harsh sun. “I used prefinished claps on my house about ten years ago and the only flaw in the finish is the occasional mildew spot, easily washed off,” Eldrenkamp says. “The paint looks as if it’ll be good for another ten years, easily.”

  • Cost of unfinished siding for a 10-by-40-foot addition, plus two paint jobs: $5,000
  • Cost for pre-finished claps and one coat of paint at installation: $3,750
  • Saved: $1,250

Remodel or Build Your Own Home

Remodel or Build Your Home

Hit the Recycling Center

Do-it-yourselfers can reap big savings with recycled or lightly used fixtures and building materials. Habitat for Humanity operates about 400 ReStores nationwide, which offer salvaged materials at half off home-center prices.

One caveat: Many contractors won’t work with salvaged items, or homeowner-supplied materials in general, because they don’t want to assume the liability if something goes wrong.

That said, if you’re doing your own work, you can find anything from prehung doors to acrylic skylights to partial bundles of insulation. (To find a ReStore near you, visit habitat.org.)

  • Price of 4-by-5-foot insulated window in a home center: $600
  • Price at ReStore: $300
  • Saved: $300

Donate your Trash

Before you begin a remodeling job, invite the local Habitat for Humanity chapter to remove materials and fixtures for later resale. “About 85 percent of a house is reusable,” says B.J. Perkins, Habitat’s ReUse program manager, in Austin, Texas. “We can do a total takedown, or do a cherry-pick job and take the cabinets, the tub, the sink, and so on.”

You save space in the landfill, collect a charitable tax credit for the donation, and help a good cause. Visit Habitat to find an affiliate near you.

  • Cost to trash a suite of bathroom fixtures: $50 to $75
  • Cost to donate: Nothing, plus you get a tax deduction
  • Saved: Space in the landfill (and a little bit of your soul)
